Kittatinny students continue winning trend in technology

Hampton — Kittatinny students once again put their technology program on the map at the state conference of the Technology Student Association, held at the College of New Jersey. This year’s event was the largest to date, with 45 schools and more than 1,000 students competing in 38 different events. From Kittatinny, the 35 students entered in 19 events continued their reputation of excellence, garnering a total of 11 awards. Collecting two first-place, seven second-place and two third-place showings, Kittatinny had eight students win trophies for the first time. Jared Harpel won first place in CAD 2D-Architecturem as well as a $1,000 a year scholarship from Johnson and Wales University. Nick Maskel won first place in CAD 3D-Engineering. Both Jared and Nick will now be entitled to represent the state of New Jersey at the TSA National Conference. In second place were Gary Fox - who garnered awards in two different events - Josh Gibson, Brian Swet, Kelly McCaskill, Kaitlin Sheehy and the team of Dan Schanker, Sean Singer and Ashley Markovic. Aubrey Lynch took third in her competition. Justin Dalton and Adam Mengon also teamed for a third-place showing, each receiving an additional $500 annual scholarship from Johnson and Wales University. The Kittatinny students are led by two teacher/advisors, Fred Fogle and Doug Carnegie. The team now looks forward to competing in the TSA national competition in Nashville, Tenn.
