Kiwanis Club holds Golf Open

SPARTA—The Kiwanis Club of Sparta held its 11th annual Golf Open on Aug. 14, 2006, held at and sponsored by the Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Sparta. Over 80 golfers attended and tried their best to win the 4 hole-in-one prizes provided by Danforth’s Boat and Trailer, Newton Motorsports (Porsche/Audi), Route 23 Automall, and Sussex Bank. The golfers were particularly thankful for the 3 beverage carts sponsored by Newton Memorial Hospital, Armen Koochagian and Goble Funeral Home. And to add to the refreshments, a free tasting of Dewars Scotch was available at the 12th hole. The support of the area businesses allowed Sparta Kiwanis to provide an abundance of gifts that were distributed later at the dinner. “Of course, this event would have never succeeded without the hard work of our volunteer committee,” Brian Grace, Event Chairman said, “and they did a great job. The committee workers were instrumental in making the Sparta Kiwanis Golf Open run smoothly. My thanks go out to each and every one of you.” Sparta Kiwanis also gave special thanks to the Board of Directors of the Golf Club for their donation, support and assistance. “Gene Savron, CCM, General Manager of Lake Mohawk Golf Club and his extremely competent staff were particularly important to the success of this year’s outing,” Grace said. “And, of course, Mother Nature did her part by providing us with a day of spectacular weather.”
