May 26 Jamie L, Zaretski, 24, of Wharton, was sentenced to two years probation and complete 100 hours of community service. In addition, Zaretski must attend NA/AA two times a week and pay fines and costs are totaling $1,255. Zaretski pled guilty on March 14, to possession of heroin. She was found to be in possession of three bags of heroin following a two car motor vehicle accident in Sparta on Aug. 6. Tony R. Benitez, 39, of Vernon, pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault. According to court records, on April 25, in Vernon Township, Benitez while visiting a friend's house he had inappropriate contact with two female residents who were less than 12 years of age. Detective Sean Talt of the Vernon Police Department and Detective Sergeant Kim Unhoch and Detective Joseph Costello of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office conducted the investigation. Benitez will be sentenced in August. Javair A, Seas, of North Plainfield, pled guilty to abuse of a child. According to police, on Aug. 31, in the Borough of Franklin, the Seas engaged in sexual acts with a minor. Detective Sergeant Thomas Kulsar of the Franklin Police Department and Detective Sergeant Kim Unhoch of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office conducted the investigation. Sentencing will take place in August. Jeffrey A. Spangenberg, 22, of Cuddebackville, NY, was sentenced to 90 days in county jail and three years probation. In addition, Spangenberg must undergo evaluation and follow the recommendations, must attend NA/AA three times a week and pay fines and costs totaling $205 as well as restitution is in the amount of $534.47 Spangenberg pled guilty on March 14, to theft. On Aug. 30, Spangenberg snatched a purse from a woman in the parking lot of the Tri-State Mall in Montague. The case was investigated by Detective Thomas Preston of the New Jersey State Police. Christopher Richards, 20, of Newton, was sentenced to four years in state prison with one and a half years of parole. In addition, he must pay $1,880 in fines and lose his driver's license for one year. Richards pled guilty on April 18, to possession of heroin and possession of a hypodermic needle. According to police, on Jan. 26, following a motor vehicle stop by Sparta Police Officer John Lamon, Richards was found to be in possession of three bags of heroin and a hypodermic needle. May 27 Jameel Holman, 25, of Newton, was sentenced to three years probation and 180 days in the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility. In addition, Holman was also ordered to pay $ 673 in restitution to the victim and $205 in mandatory fines as well as provide a DNA sample at his own expense. Holman pled guilty on March 14, to burglary. According to court records, Holman entered a private residence without permission and stole items from inside the home. Holman sold the items so he could obtain drugs. A 16-year-old from Lafayette was sentenced to a one year probation and 60 days in the Sussex County juvenile detention center. In addition, he was ordered to pay $75 in monetary penalties, complete the ADP program, supply a DNA sample at his expense, attend school everyday and follow school rules. He is also to complete 75 hours of community service. The juvenile entered a guilty plea to third degree possession of a handgun. According to court records, on March 4, police responded to a report of several juveniles with handguns in a parking lot on Mill Street, Newton. Six juveniles were subsequently arrested and charged. Michael Fioretti, 20, of Sparta, was sentenced to one and a half years probation, 278 days in the county jail, $1,250 in fines and a six month loss of driver's license. He pled guilty on Feb. 28, to distributing a controlled and dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school. According to court records, on Jan. 31, Fioretti sold a small amount of marijuana to an undercover detective assigned to the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force while within 1,000 feet of the Mohawk Avenue School. Joseph Quiles, 21, of Newton, was sentenced to two years probation, $1,205 in fines, and a six month loss of his driver's license. Quiles pled guilty on Feb. 28, 2005 to distribution of cocaine. On Dec. 3, he sold ten small bags of cocaine to an undercover detective assigned to the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force. Zachary G. Smith, 25, of Branchville, was sentenced to 4 years in state prison, $1455 fines and penalties and six months suspension of his driver's license. Smith pled guilty on March 15, to shoplifting, three counts of assault and possession of a hypodermic syringe. According to police, Smith took more than $500 of retail merchandise from the Wal-Mart Store and attempted to leave without paying for the items. When stopped by Wal-Mart security personnel, Smith assaulted three Wal-Mart employees, who were able to detain Smith until police arrived. When arrested, Smith was in possession of a hypodermic needle containing heroin. William J. Couillou, 24, of Newton, was sentenced to 18 months in state prison. In addition, he must pay restitution in the amount of $685, pay fines and penalties totaling $205 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. Couillou pled guilty on Sept. 13, to aggravated assault. Couillou gave a statement to police claiming that during a party he was hosting at his home on Aug. 14, he fired a shotgun to scare his guests away. The round ended up striking woman standing nearby. June 3 David Campbell, 38, of Newton, was sentenced to three years in state prison. In addition, Campbell must pay restitution in the amount of $5,185, pay fines and penalties totaling $205 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. His bail was exonerated. On March 14, Campbell pled guilty to burglary, a 3rd degree crime. He admitted to police that on Dec. 17 he and a co-defendant broke a window and entered a home that was under construction in Green Township damaging walls and plumbing.
