Liberty Towers earns merit awards for fund-raising efforts

Newton - The Newton Housing Authority at Liberty Towers earned two Regional Awards of Merit at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials annual meeting on Monday, May 8, in NYC. Kimberly Woodhull, executive director, Dick Bale, maintenance superintendent, and Cheire Lozaw, program assistant, attended the conference, where they also displayed an exhibit. Each year, the local chapters compete for national awards of merit and excellence. The Mid-Atlantic council reviews the applications each year and judges the best for its own awards ceremony at its annual membership meeting. The awards recognized the innovative means of raising money for Liberty Towers through its “Motorcycles for Seniors Benefit Motorcycle Run” and ability to utilize partnerships forged by the “Adopt-A-Hallway Program” to upgrade the facility. This year’s Annual Benefit Bike Run for Liberty Towers will be held on Sunday, July 16. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the VFW Post 5380 on Mill Street in Newton. Registration is $20 for riders, $10 for passengers. A picnic will follow the event and will be open to the general public for a donation of $10. In addition to food, the event will feature live music, door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, vendors and more.
