4Chicks Cafe offers something for everyone
Newton — Richard and Ariadne Laboy, owners of 4Chicks Cafe in Newton, are celebrating four months in business this Friday.
The menu is diverse and eclectic, and the restaurant's hallmarks are waffles and chicken.
On Friday Oct. 2, the Laboys will add dinner options to the menu.
The anticpation is high as customers are pre-ordering so they don't miss out.
Moving to the countryThe couple hails from Queens where they met and married, but they longed for a country lifestyle and moved to Montague.
“The problem was that we were still commuting,” said Ari Laboy. “There were no jobs out here for us.”
The ideal solution was to create their own jobs.
Passion for cooking Richard Laboy is no stranger to the kitchen, and his teachers were his grandmother and television chef Rachel Ray.
“I always enjoyed cooking and found the daily tutorials from Rachel Ray extremely informative,” he said.
It was this passion for cooking that was the driving force behind opening a cafe.
“Being native New Yorkers, we wanted to bring that kind of atmosphere here,” Ari Laboy said.
Richard Laboy came up with a rough concept for the cafe based on a restaurant in Brooklyn.
4Chicks is bornAfter checking available properties and driving around Sussex County, he chose Newton because it's a walking town.
Two properties on Moran Street were in the running.
“We had to go through several people in the town to make sure we could put in a kitchen,” Richard Laboy said.
The couple said the town was very helpful, suggesting they open initially with just breakfast and lunch.
After some hard work and configuring the kitchen correctly, their vision came to a reality with the opening of 4Chicks Cafe on June 2.
The name 4Chicks stems from the female influence of his wife and their three daughters.
Menu has something for everyone
4Chicks Cafe offers breakfast sandwiches and bagels; heartier dishes include Belgian waffles, pancakes and French toast.
The lunch menu includes the popular 4Chicks chicken and waffles, also available in sandwich form and a varierty of burgers, paninis, and salads.
The new dinner menu is more elaborate featuring some lunch items and daily specials.
Mac n' Cheese Monday is always a sell out.
“People know that once it's gone, it's gone for the day,” Richard Laboy said.
Taco Tuesday and Wednesday's Spanish specialties are also a huge hit as well as the famous empanadas , offered daily.
The coffee bar is always open, and the restaurant is B.Y.O.B.
The cafe has a lounge area with free WiFi, TV, and a section with tables.
4Chicks Cafe has come up with a winning formula to please a variety of customers
“People are learning that we're here, and it's exciting to see how the cafe has grown,” said Richard Laboy.
