There have been a lot of event cancellations and postponements, lately. But there are also some special offerings to help residents through these changing times.

Residents aged 60 and over can "shop safely," at the Sparta Stop and Shop, which offers them special early morning hours. Beginning on Thursday, March 19, senior citizens will have exclusive access to the supermarket from 6 a.m. through 7:30 a.m. Sparta’s Senior Bus Service will continue as scheduled with extra sanitation protocols in place.

Some agencies are finding virtual connection clients: Since the "Sober St. Patrick’s Day" gathering has been cancelled, the Center for Prevention and Counseling offers online resources for those in recovery. Those services can be accessed by visiting www.centerforprevention.org/rcc/support-meetings. Those in need of additional support can also call 973-940-2966.

The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services will suspend daily nutrition congregate sites for seniors in Vernon, Franklin, and Hopatcong until further notice. Because the agency recognizes that this may be a sole source of nutrition for some senior citizens, the department is working with all site coordinators and Newton Medical Center to arrange delivery for seniors in need. More information on deliveries for participants in this service can be obtained by calling 973-579-0555.
