— Cassi Hahn, a student at Kittatinny Regional High School, has accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and will be sworn-in as a member of their Class of 2020. The Air Force Academy has recognized Hahn for superior academic achievement and leadership potential. She is the daughter of Louis and Rebecca Hahn of Fredon Township. She is ranked fourth in the Class of 2016 with a 4.481GPA.
Hahn has earned a rare opportunity to participate in one of this country’s finest officer training programs. This appointment is offered to only 1,200 of 9,700 applicants. She is joining a select group of our nation’s finest young people as she takes a challenging and rewarding step toward becoming a professional Air Force officer.
Before taking this appointment, Hahn had been accepted to Northeastern University, Lafayette College, University of Tampa, and University of South Florida, all with significant academic scholarships. She has also been admitted to the University of California at Santa Barbara.
In April, she received the Superintendent’s Roundtable Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club, and the Debate Team, where she serves as captain. The Kittatinny Team was chosen as the third place affirmative team at the North Jersey Debate League Championships.
Hahn is also captain of the Girls’ Varsity Swim Team where she holds the school record in the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She is certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, Red Cross Water Safety, Red Cross Lifeguarding, and Waterfront Skills. When working as a Lifeguard for the Kittatinny pool and for Aquapro Lifeguards, she is also responsible for periodic maintenance and chemical testing of the pool’s water quality while she is on duty.
For two years she attended a leadership program at a summer camp where she helped children with illnesses. The program helped her to develop her interpersonal, professional, and leadership skills. Last summer, she participated in A Hero’s Journey, a 7-day wilderness adventure program that focused on self-reliance, positive communication, and teamwork through a variety of exciting challenges. While there, she was trained in wilderness first-aid.
During her high school career, Hahn has donated her time and effort to many volunteer activities including working at the Sussex County Fair, participating in the Valerie Fund Walk, helping at the local soup kitchens through the Interact Club, coaching the junior high swim team, and co-instructing children under 6 years in beginning and advanced swim strokes.
