Crash and DWI charges
On Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at approx. 8:38 p.m., the Hackettstown Police, Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to the area of 31 North Main St., on a report of a rollover motor vehicle crash. When officers arrived on scene, they observed a silver Infiniti overturned in the front of 30 North Main St., and several people were around the vehicle attempting to extricate the driver.
The driver was finally extricated from the vehicle and spoke with the officers. While the officers were speaking with 25-year-old Phillip Kellam of Allamuchy Twp., NJ, they detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Police say he also became belligerent and cursed at the officer and medical staff. Police say that hrough an investigation it was determined that Phillip was travelling east on Route 46 in a 2004 Infiniti and drifted into the westbound lane. He swerved to correct back into the eastbound lane and lost control of his vehicle. According to police he then hit the curb, struck a utility pole and hit an embankment wall at 24 North Main St. He then proceeded to skid across the landscape at 26-28 North Main St and then struck an embankment at 30 North Main St causing the vehicle to overturn and collide with the front porch. Phillip refused medical treatment. Phillip was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Phillip was released pending a court appearance. Route 46 was closed between East Baldwin St and Roosevelt Ave for approximately 2 and a half hours. Assisting at the scene were; the Hackettstown Fire Police, Jersey Central Power and Light and Saint Clare’s Paramedics.
