After a long and fun journey in scouting, Tyler Perry finished his Eagle Scout project by restoring a shed for the Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board.
Perry began his scouting career as a Cub Scout in Pack 151, formerly Pack 93, because friends were in it. His desire to build his character later motivated him to continue. During his time as a Cub Scout, Perry participated in many events, including Pinewood and Soapbox derbies, where he placed first.
He worked countless hours to learn scouting skills, including knots, cooking, first aid, boating, maps and wood carving. The work helped him advance through the ranks and live by the Scout Oath and Law.
At age 11, Perry joined the Boy Scouts. The COVID-19 pandemic briefly interrupted his progress toward becoming an Eagle Scout.
After the pandemic, he advanced through the ranks to Life Scout. He then shifted his focus to an Eagle Scout project. He accepted the task of restoring a shed that was in complete disarray for the Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board.
Over multiple months, Perry worked countless hours on paperwork and planning. He worked with leaders to determine materials and costs and made multiple trips to the project site.
The construction phase involved multiple work parties during the summer. Perry, along with leaders, scouts and volunteers, replaced a worn door, painted the trim, walls and roof, and removed weeds and trash.
Perry finished the project by placing topsoil and grass seed, and restoring and adding new plaques and signs. The restored shed now provides a safe space for equipment used by volunteers who work to keep the lake clean for the community.
Perry called the project a significant achievement that benefited the towns of Roxbury, Stanhope, Netcong and Byram, which are connected by the lake.
