Grow your own garden

ANDOVER — Sunset Vista Community Garden at Sunset View Farm in Andover wants to teach you how to grow your own garden and provide you with the space to do it. Last year's participants say they grew the best summer tomatoes and watermelon they ever ate. With full sun, an 8-foot deer fence, and how-to workshops, anyone can be a successful gardener. This gardening segment at the farm is non-profit and asks for donations of $200 for the entire year to lease a plot and help pay for the fencing and amenities, and the workshops and hands-on training which are included. The farmers and master gardeners will even teach you how to can and preserve your harvest so you take home lots of food to enjoy over the winter. Sunset Vista is leasing 65 of the 100 plots this year and using the rest to grow feed for the chickens, and pumpkins for the Pumpkin Fest Fundraiser in October. There are only eleven 15 x 30 garden plots left. Planting begins May 15. For more information and to register, contact linda@sunsetvista.org or call 973-579-7382.
