Homestead honors volunteers with appreciation luncheon

The Homestead Rehabilitation and Health Care Center welcomed nearly three dozen volunteers on Wednesday, May 1, to show gratitude for the many hours spent enriching the lives of the nursing facility’s residents over the last year. Hosted by Admissions and Volunteer Director Mary Ellen Quinlan and Director of Recreation and Community Relations Danah Petit, attendees were treated to a three-course luncheon prepared and served by Homestead staff.
Homestead Administrator Jake Lighten expressed his gratitude to the volunteers, who provide skills ranging from reading to residents, to lay ministry and ecumenical services, to facilitating hands-on gardening and crafts.
“Thank you for coming here and sharing your time and talents,” Lighten said to the assembled volunteers, “We wouldn’t be able to do all we do without you. Volunteers bring the community to the nursing home, and it’s so important for quality of life here and being part of the bigger Sussex County community. Many of our residents don’t have family; you’ve become that family for them. Thank you.”
