Honoring Revolutionary War veterans

The Sussex County Historical Society (SCHS) invites the public to a memorial service to be held at the Old Newton Burial Ground at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, to pay tribute the 11 Revolutionary War veterans and one female patriot buried at the cemetery. The SCHS Cemetery Committee will be dedicating new gravestones for four of the veterans, and full military honors will be provided by the Honor Guard from American Legion Lt. Charles A. Meyer Post 86. Representatives from local chapters of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, Harmony Lodge No. 8 F. & A.M., and U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer’s office will also be in attendance at the memorial.
What: Memorial Service and Gravestone Dedication for Revolutionary War veterans.
When: 10 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019.
Where: Old Newton Burial Ground, entrance between 77 and 79 Main St., Newton (park in old McGuire’s lot).
Cost: Free.
