Hopatcong Women’s Club features two Sussex County speakers

| 10 Dec 2012 | 02:10

The Hopatcong Women’s Club’s November meeting featured two speakers.

The first was Dr. Paul Mazur, the fifth President of Sussex County Community College. Mazur reviewed the continuing need for education in today’s competitive job market, for both new graduates as well as those returning to school later in life.

The second speaker was Sean Hyland from The United Way of Northern New Jersey. Combining the forces of a number of surrounding counties, the Northern NJ chapter is promoting the Caregiver’s Coalition, a group of compassionate and dedicated caregivers and experts in caregiving issues who share a commitment to improving the lives of caregivers in the community. Up-to-date information, easy access to resources, and support are offered to all who need it. Contact CaregiversCoalition@UnitedWay.org for more information.

Chapter updates and news

The co-presidents, Marlene Colabella and Ellen Buongiorno, were honored on Oct. 17 at a Hopatcong Council Meeting with a proclamation from the town of Hopatcong for the work done with DASI (Domestic Abuse and Sexual Intervention Services) in Sussex County.

The Club recently made a donation to DASI in memory Marge Deermount Bradley, long-time Hopatcong Women’s Club Member who recently and suddenly passed away.

The Women’s Club has four Hopatcong locations at which donations are currently accepting donations for local food banks: The Hopatcong Post Office, Borough Hall, Skylands Medical Group, and Sovereign Bank (no glass please).

The Hopatcong Women’s Club is offering a “Career Development Award” in the amount of $500 to a female Hopatcong resident who is planning to return to school. The recipient must be 25 years or older. Call Norma Rung, Education Chair, at 973-398-4948 or e-mail normarung@yahoo.com for an application. The completed application must be received by March 31, 2013.
