— The Sparta High School Honors Choir and the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Choir are joining voices to celebrate our nation’s heroes on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Sparta. Instrumental music accompanying the singers will include brass, percussion, and organ. Selections such as “A Tribute to the Armed Forces,” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” will honor our veterans and service members.
A donation will be made following this concert to the “Mark Inga Memorial Scholarship Fund.” Inga, a Sparta High School graduate, passed away May 28, 2011 at the age of 19. He was an avid choral singer, musician, and member of the Sparta Skihawks. His generous nature made him a true friend to all who knew him.
“I can’t think of a single time I ever saw Mark putting someone down. He was constantly building up those around him and supporting his teachers and peers. Someone who was that positive and uplifting will always be missed,” said Choral Director Laura Lopez.
Continuing this scholarship in his name has been a way to remind graduating Sparta music students about his kind, outgoing, and enthusiastic spirit.
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is located at 85 Conestoga Trail in Sparta. Tickets are $10 and are sold at the door. Veterans and service members showing ID will receive free entry.
