Newton High School Robotics Team makes progress
The Newton Robotics Team is off to a great start since the initiation of their Build Season on January 9. After excitedly attending the 2016 FIRST kickoff at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the team learned that this year’s challenge was to build a robot to defend their stronghold as well as to invade their opponent’s. This capture-the-flag-like challenge requires the robot to shoot goals, bypass obstacles, and dodge opponents.
Monday marked the start of the first week, out of six, in the building process. There are several sub teams that make up Team 3142 Aperture. One is the safety team, who has been preparing to help other teams during competitions. They are ready with their freebie safety packets containing various items from juice boxes for low blood sugar to baking soda for the rare, but possible dangers of acid spills from battery leaks. In addition, invitations for Aperture’s STEM Partner Open House were recently sent out to the team’s sponsors, family, and friends. Finally, the build team has fully conceptualized the basic concept of the robot and are in the process of creating it in SolidWorks, the team’s CADD software.
