Stanhope breaks its weather ‘curse’, celebrates spring with street festival
By Mandy Coriston
Stanhope Borough- Community groups and vendors lined Main Street in Stanhope on Sunday, June 9, to celebrate its 23rd Annual Spring Festival, with organizers breathing a sigh of relief that the day dawned dry and sunny. It’s become a recurring theme that Stanhope is the victim of bad weather, having had to cancel or postpone nearly all of the town’s outdoor events for the last two summers and even having an EF1 tornado touch down near the high school recently. With the spring festival under their belts, Stanhopers are looking forward to their next event, the Miss Stanhope Scholarship Program, to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at the Whistling Swan Inn. Young women ages 17-21 who wish to compete for the title of Miss Stanhope can find the application and details online at www.stanhopenj.gov/event/miss-stanhope-scholarship-program-2.
