Newton - The Newton Prime Time Seniors are looking for new friends to join in their fun in 2019. Membership in the social club, founded over 30 years ago, is open to all 55-and-older residents who live in the 07860 zip code. Club President Joyce Franklin said that the group meets regularly and also takes outings to area restaurants for brunch and lunch, as well as taking day trips to out-of-town destinations.
“The club really is a great meeting place,” Franklin said, “It’s wonderful to spend time talking with people your own age. We have our business meetings twice a month, but when the agenda is done, we play BINGO or have a cake social. It’s tremendous fun.”
Franklin said the club also occasionally brings speakers into their regular meetings. “We’ve had pharmacists come in and speak about medication concerns; we’ve had the Red Cross in, too,” she said, “We like to have topics that are of interest to the members.”
The Newton Prime Time Seniors meet at 12:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at Newton Firehouse #1 at 22 Mill St., Newton. Yearly membership dues are $10, plus $1 door dues to cover meeting supplies and, on the 1st Wednesday, $1 door dues towards the travel fund. There’s also an optional cash 50/50 drawing at each meeting.
Those needing more information or wishing to join the Newton Prime Time Seniors can call Joyce Franklin at 973-945-6375.
“Or,” Franklin said, “people can just come down to a meeting. They’re welcome to see what we’re all about.”
