SCCC students earn Telly Award
NEWTON Sussex County Community College (SCCC) recently announced that a documentary produced by the college's media students has earned a Bronze Telly Award. In its 33rd award season, the Telly Awards receive over 11,000 entries from all fifty states and five continents. Alongside SCCC, other winners include familiar names such as Nickelodeon and Harpo. To receive a Bronze Telly Award, entries must receive 7-8.9 points on a scale to ten; only about 22 percent of entries receive this distinction. Tellys are similar to the Emmys, but are reserved to honor productions that have not aired on the five major TV networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX or CW. Under the guidance of faculty members Tony Selimo and John Salinas, SCCC students Darryl Curry, Arron McCarty, and James Ulichny created the award winning documentary "The Way Up." This production shadowed the Vernon High School Robotics team as they made their way to the national competition in NYC last spring.
