Stone Soup and Other Stories NJ Theatre Alliance's The Stage Festival presents free community event at The Newton Theatre
NEWTON - New Jersey Theatre Alliance presents Pushcart Players' production of “Stone Soup” at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. This event is part of the Alliance’s Stages Festival, the state’s largest annual theatre festival that provides free and discounted theatre events for all ages throughout the month of March. This event is free.
Rooted in the belief that the arts are basic to education, Pushcart Players joins the literacy movement with a collection of folk tales brought to life through the magic of story-telling. Entitled “Stone Soup and Other Stories,” this charming presentation drawn from international classics is an excellent springboard for subsequent reading and reading-related activities as well as discussion and projects on multi-cultural themes.
“Stone Soup and Other Stories” contains story favorites from Africa, India, Eastern Europe and our own United States. Filled with music, color, fantasy and fun, each tale gently raises value clarification issues while also introducing the spirit and customs of different cultures.
The Stages Festival offers dozens of performances, workshops, classes, and events at theatres, art centers, libraries, schools, senior centers, and other community venues throughout the state. The program was developed to encourage New Jersey’s residents to attend their local professional theatres by making the experience affordable, accessible, and fun.
“The Alliance is grateful that The Newton Theatre is participating in the 2019 Stages Festival,” said John McEwen, Executive Director of the Alliance. “For 22 years, Stages has provided theatrical experiences for thousands of residents across New Jersey. These efforts would not be made possible without the wonderful help of our partners such as The Newton Theatre.”
The historic Newton Theatre, founded in 1924, is a beautifully restored 605 seat performing arts center in the heart of Sussex County, presenting diverse programming, including world-renowned music arts, comedians, family productions, holiday shows and more, in an intimate setting. The Arts Academy serves students from 5 years of age thru adults with acting and art classes, private lessons, performances camps, workshops and more. Its historic charm and world-class entertainment make The Newton Theatre New Jersey Skylands’ premier entertainment venue.
