The Rescue Round-Up

Eleventh Hour Rescue
Oliver is a handsome 5-year-old dog who had been found as a stray in New York City and taken to the Brooklyn Shelter. His hold time had expired and he was about to be euthanized. Fortunately, Eleventh Hour Rescue stepped in to save this wonderful guy. He was extremely emaciated and sick with a lingering upper respiratory infection that took him weeks to get over. Since then, he has put on a great deal of weight, gotten 100 percent healthy and is now looking for his forever home.
Oliver gets along with other dogs, is friendly with all people and enjoys spending time with his favorite volunteer friends, going on walks or playing in a play yard. He does well on the leash and enjoys taking time to stop and smell the roses while on a walk. Riding in the car is one of his all-time favorite activities; his tail wags like crazy when he gets in, and, of course, he always has to sit in the shot-gun seat.
Nora is a 2-year-old pit bull mix who loves walks and hikes. She is great on a leash and very obedient. Nora always has a sparkle in her beautiful eyes. She is always totally focused on the person handling her. Nora loves to cuddle and take in as much love as she can. She loves to relax and at the same time enjoy everything around her. Nora is very much a free spirit. She needs a home without cats, but gets along with more laid back or older dogs. Nora rides great in cars. She does awesome with new people she meets and she loves children. Nora also has the best little piggy snort when she gets excited.

Horse Rescue United
Horse Rescue United currently has eight horses looking for homes. One adorable pair that must go together is Midget and Eeyore. Midget is a 14-year-old, 9-hand chestnut miniature horse mare and Eeyore is an 8-year-old, 9-hand miniature donkey gelding. They are very bonded, so need to stay in a home and field together.
Both are sweet, great with kids and make great pasture pets/companions. They live outside 24/7 with a shed and need a field that doesn’t have much or rich grass. Midget also needs a shed with bedding as she loves her naps there. They’re seeking a private forever home/family where they can be loved and enjoyed. The pair is free if approved and are protected by HRU’s contract for life.
Lucille is a 14-year-old, 15-hand dark bay Standardbred mare who’s been getting lots of trail riding experience this fall. She’s safe for advanced beginner riders on trails with others, but is still an easy to ride intermediate type. Lucille is sweet and gets along well with other horses. She is $200 to an approved home with HRU’s contract.

BARKS
Marley is a 3-year-old polydactyl kitty who was abandoned when her former owners moved away. Concerned neighbors had been feeding her. Marley is the sweetest, most affectionate cat who just wants to be loved. She does head bumps and gives kisses. Marley loves catnip toys and air kneads when she is happy with her big extra toes in the air. She would do best as an only cat, since she wants her humans all to herself, or maybe with one other docile cat.
BARKS is also hosting their semi-annual Gigantic Garage Sale on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wild West City. There will be 200,000+ items. Clothing, tools, housewares, toys, books, jewelry, china, silver, wicker, furniture, sporting goods and much more. All proceeds benefit the rescue’s homeless dogs and cats.
Donations are being accepted on Thursday and Friday Oct. 17 and 18 between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Wild West City. For more information on the garage sale, contact Lois at 973-786-5763 or loismkoch@embarmail.com, or visit www.barksinc.com/garagesale.html.
BARKS is also partnering with PetSmart at Hampton House Road in the Adoption Center. Cats can be seen and adopted there during store hours.
