Marathon man' returns to the race in Cape May

Stillwater Guy Gordon, 49, of Stillwater successfully returned to the world of marathoning this past Sunday, March 25, when he came in 10th out of over 500 runners in the Ocean Drive Marathon in Cape May. The event, which runs 26.2 miles from Cape May to Sea Isle City was hampered by incessant headwinds of over 30 miles per hour which the runners had to battle the entire way. Gordon, who was the second overall masters runner in the race, ran 3:03 in his first marathon since he had knee surgery. “I was hoping on breaking three hours, but given the wind, was thrilled with the time and the effort. It was like running into a wall for 26.2 miles,” said Gordon, who holds various masters course records and has a personal best of 2:33 for the event. He now has set his sights on breaking 2:50 this fall. Gordon had meniscus knee surgery three years ago, and credits Dr. Steven Koss and Dreyer Physical Therapy for getting his knee back into marathon shape. Gordon and his wife, Laurie, are directors of the Bears Youth Running Program and the X-TREME Youth Running Camp.
