Sussex County - Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Senator Robert Littell, both Republicans representing Sussex, Morris, and Hunterdon, applauded DEP Commissioner Brad Campbell’s approval of the state’s “Comprehensive Bear Management Plan.” With the commissioner’s decision, a proposed black bear hunt can proceed as planned in December. “Over the past several months since last year’s hunt was cancelled, the state has experienced ever-increasing incidences of aggressive hear behavior,” said Assemblywoman McHose. “1 am pleased the commissioner agrees with the need for a hunt because, as he alluded himself, the need is based on sound wildlife management practice.” “To me, the issue of a bear hunt has always been a public safety matter,”’ said Sen. Littell. “I believe a hunt will help control the bear population so that we lessen the chances of a real human tragedy.” This year’s black bear hunt is scheduled for Dec. 5-10.
