Home sellers must inform buyers which school the property draws to, By Millie Guerrero Andover - New families who moved into the township voiced their concerns regarding inaccurate information given to them about school bus stops by real estate agents and developers. They claim that this information was a factor in their decision to purchase the house. The township has responded to this problem by introducing an ordinance that requires real estate agent and private sellers to tell home buyers the precise location of school bus stops. According to Vita Johnson, township clerk, the council wanted to create a dialog between the school system and sellers to avoid future confusion and has introduced the ordinance at the regular meeting held Monday night. She said the township has yet to determine the date for the public hearing. The ordinance says when an owner or real estate agent sells a house they have to give the buyer the correct school information and then give the township written certification it was done. Severe fines or imprisonment can be enforced if residential sellers don’t comply. The ordinance reads: “Violations of this chapter shall be punishable, upon convictions, by a fine not to exceed $2,000 or imprisonment for a period not to exceed 90 days, or both.”
