STANHOPE — New Year's Day saw a passing of the torch from former Stanhope mayor Diane Kuncken to newly-elected mayor Rosemarie Maio at a special ceremony at Stanhope's American Legion Building. Maio previously served as the borough's council president. Kuncken served as mayor for eight years. "I have some pretty big shoes to fill," said Maio. "I have worked with great people the last eight years and I'm grateful to them," Kuncken said. In addition to Maio, James Benson and Michael Depew were sworn in for three years terms on the council. George Graham was chosen as council president. New officers for the fire department took their oaths, as well as individuals appointed to various boards and commissions in Stanhope. "Our's is a wonderful community," said Maio. "Their contributions are important to Stanhope." Maio acknowledged Stanhope is ready to meet any upcoming challenges. "I look forward to serving as your mayor," Maio said.
