Newton drug arrest
Newton On Tuesday Nov. 14, 6:05 p.m., a drug distribution investigation in Newton culminated in the arrest of Leighton Brown. The arrest was a result of a cooperative investigation between the Newton Police Department and the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force, and was made at Brown’s residence where he was being monitored electronically by the New Jersey State Parole through the wearing of an ankle bracelet. He also attempted to conceal and destroy the drugs by flushing them down his toilet when officers arrived at his apartment, however the contraband was retrieved. Officers from the Narcotics Task Force and the Newton Police conducted the subsequent search of the apartment with the assistance of the Sheriff’s K9 unit. Heroin, cocaine and marijuana were seized from Brown’s residence. Brown was charged with the following: Possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin, possession with intent to distribute less than one ounce of marijuana, hindering apprehension and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Sussex County Jail in lieu $75,000 bail.
