Newton holiday parade brings in the season with style

Newton - Elves, angels and smiling presents marched down Spring Street during the annual Newton Chamber of Commerce Holiday parade held Saturday. Attorney Mark Hontz was the master of ceremonies for the largest holiday parade in Newton’s history. Senator Littell was the grand marshal. Many other local notables smiled and waved from convertibles including Miss Hampton, Miss Stillwater and Little Miss and Mister Newton. Most of the participants were children from 4-H, school groups and Scout troops. Along with the children there were a gaggle of goats with antlers, rabbits in wagons and sheep with jingle bells. The Newton Marching Band and local bands had cheerleaders and brownie troops dancing in the streets. The parade ended with an appearance by Santa on a ladder rig from the Newton Fire Department. Santa visited with children at the end of the parade collecting holiday wish lists.
