NEWTON - Newton Memorial Hospital honored six nurses from various departments in a Nurse of the Year celebration culminating National Hospital Week. “Nurses of the Year” are: Corrine Englehart, of Medical/Surgical Nursing; Patricia Kresge, of Telemetry Nursing; Janine Nowicki, of Ambulatory Care Nursing; Barbara Reed, of Alternative Care Settings; Lois Rosenkrans, of Inpatient Behavioral Health, and Linda Siegrist, of Emergency Nursing. The American Nurse’s Association set the theme “Nursing: A Profession & A Passion,” for Nurse’s Day across the nation. “These awards highlight the diverse ways in which nurses are working to improve health care,” said Mary Ellen Rauner, Newton Memorial Hospital’s Vice President of Patient Care and Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “All of our nurses continue to meet the expanding healthcare needs of the communities we serve. They are devoted caregivers as well as responsible professionals.” Newton Memorial Hospital President & CEO Tom Senker presented the awards using descriptions drawn from nomination letters written by other nurses: “outstanding judgment,” “above and beyond,” and “caring tirelessly for patients and staff.” “On behalf of our community, our board that represents that community, our medical staff that has a tremendous amount of respect for what you do and management, thank you for what you do everyday,” Senker said. The nurses were honored during an hour-long ceremony in the Newton Memorial Hospital lobby attended by more than 200 people.
