    July 1 At 1:04 a.m., Newton Police were called to the area of Park Place for a reported disturbance. While investigating the reported verbal dispute between Deborah L. Freitag, 35, of Newton and a male companion, Freitag became disorderly and was arrested. While being arrested, Freitag physically resisted arrest by kicking two of the officers repeatedly and spitting in the face of one of them. She also tried to kick out a rear window of a patrol car, damaging the frame. Freitag was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, throwing bodily fluids at a police officer and criminal mischief. She was lodged in the Sussex County jail in default of $2,500 bail. A Newton officer was spat upon was treated at Newton Memorial Hospital for exposure to bodily fluids. July 2 At 6:52 p.m., Newton Police were called to the Tattoo Factory on Water Street for a reported drunk and disorderly patron. Upon arrival, the suspect, Reginald J. Casterlin Jr., 35, of Franklin, was backing his truck in the parking lot. A subsequent investigation led to his arrest for driving while intoxicated. Casterlin reportedly refused to comply with the arrest, and was physically subdued by the arresting officers. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples and resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance pending further court action. His truck was impounded following his arrest. July 3 At 10:09 p.m., Newton Police were called to an apartment on Elm Street B for a possible drug overdose. The investigation led to the arrest of the apartment's resident, Russell M. Schabacker, 45, for drug offenses. It is alleged that Schabacker used heroin and cocaine before the police arrived at his residence. He was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of hypodermic needles, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful use of a controlled and dangerous substance. He was lodged in the Sussex County jail in default of $5,000. July 5 At 10:14 p.m., Newton Police were called to High Street for a reported domestic dispute. Investigation led to the arrest of resident Jason Foster, 31 for domestic violence and an outstanding traffic warrant from the Byram Township Municipal Court. It is alleged that Foster and a female companion were engaged in an argument when he choked her causing injury. Foster was charged with simple assault and lodged in the Sussex County jail on the Byram Township warrant. The victim did not require medical attention for her injury. July 6 At 2 a.m., Newton Police were called to the Rite Aid Pharmacy parking lot on Spring Street for a possible drunk driver. Investigation led to the arrest of Newton resident Fernando Medina for driving while intoxicated. He was subsequently charged with being an unlicensed driver, careless driving and driving an uninsured vehicle. Medina was released on his own recognizance pending further action in the Newton Municipal Court. His vehicle was impounded following his arrest. At 8:06 p.m., Newton Police were called to Main Street for a reported of a shot fired at a window. Reportedly, sometime between July 1 and July 4, someone shot at the front window of the residence with a pellet gun, lodging a pellet in the window.
