Two drivers were slightly injured on Thursday May 17, at 10:57 a.m. when their cars collided on Woodside Avenue (Route 206) near the intersection of Bristol Glen Drive. A 1994 Nissan pickup truck, driven southbound on Woodside by Scott Vertetis of Stanhope struck the rear of a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta driven southbound on Woodside Avenue by Ellen Carlson of Montague. The crash caused Carlson’s vehicle to leave the roadway up an embankment and roll over near the entranceway to the Bristol Glen Retirement Community. Carlson was trapped in the vehicle and freed by emergency workers using the jaws of life. Route 206 was closed in that area for nearly an hour while traffic was diverted onto Merriam and Paterson avenues. Both drivers were the only occupants and were wearing seatbelts. Vertetis was treated for minor injuries at the scene and Carlson was taken to Newton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and further evaluation. A pedestrian who was crossing the driveway of Bristol Glen Drive at the time of the crash, Celerino Aviles of Newton, was interviewed by police. The crash remains under investigation. Also responding to the scene were the Newton Fire Department and First Aid Squad, Saint Clares Mobile Intensive Care Unit, Andover Township Fire Department and the Newton Department of Public Works. Both vehicles were towed by C&S Towing.
