    December 29 The Newton Police Dept. is investigating a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that took place on High St. in Newton at 4:57 p.m. According to police reports, Judith Spinney of Newton was crossing the street at the intersection of Spring and High Streets when she was struck by an unknown vehicle. Spinney was in the crosswalk and almost to the curb when she was struck. Two witnesses who observed the accident described the vehicle as a Silver or Gray SUV type vehicle with the passenger side headlight burnt out. The witnesses report that the car was being operated by a white female approximately 40 to 50 years of age. Some witnesses tried to wave down the vehicle, but the driver continued south on High Street making a right turn into the entrance of the Sussex County Court complex. Police were on the scene within minutes but were unable to locate the vehicle. Spinney was transported by the Newton First-Aid Squad to Newton Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
