NEWTON n Stakeholders working to bring the Main Street program to the Sussex County seat attended a training session in Trenton to learn more about what they can do to improveme Newton’s chances of acceptance. Bringing a variety of skills to the project; they are local bankers, realtors, entrepreneurs, building owners, restaurateurs and government employees who believe in the concept of Main Street Newton. At the training seminar they listened to advice from officials from the state’s Department of Community Affairs on how to lay the building blocks of a Main Street Newton program that will become the foundation for a more economically vibrant commercial district. “I can’t tell you how impressed I was with the turnout,” said John Vegas, president of the Main Street Newton committee. “For these stakeholders, all of whom have professional careers outside this effort, to set aside their personal time for a trip to Trenton just goes to show that people believe in this program. The citizens of Newton and Sussex County need to know that Main Street Newton is in great hands. These people are dedicated.” If Newton receives Main Street designation, the town will have free access to state experts who will help spark economic development through marketing and promotions, architectural planning and entrepreneurial training, to name a few. The resources will enable Newton’s commercial district to continue to build on the small successes of today to create a bustling Newton reminiscent of the past. The Main Street Newton committee continues to receive applications from people interested in becoming the executive director of the program. This job is an outstanding opportunity for the right person to earn an enticing benefits package and a $65,000 per year salary. For more information, please go to www.mainstreetusa.org.
