NJ law would toughen requirements for teen drivers

TRENTON — New Jersey lawmakers overwhelmingly have passed a bill to make even stricter requirements for teens seeking driver licenses and their parents. It would require a yearlong permit period for teens before they could obtain a graduated license, which itself comes with many restrictions. Their parents would be required to take an online or in-person class. The bill heads to the desk of Gov. Chris Christie for his signature. If he agrees, the new requirement will take effect in early 2013.
