NEWTON — The Sussex County Adult Day Center (SCADC) offers a social care program, providing the opportunity for seniors to remain at home and maintain their independence from institutionalization. The SCADC also exists to provide respite for family members and caregivers who need a break from the constant demands of caring for their loved ones. Frail and elderly residents of Sussex County (age 62 and older), who are in need of supervision and those seniors with early to mid-stages of Alzheimer's disease or dementia are eligible. The SCADC is a clean, safe, home-like environment located at 55 Mill Street in Newton. Programs include music therapy, arts and crafts, daily exercise routine, current events discussions, pet therapy, dancing, socialization and cognitive skills stimulation through various games and group activities, as well as monthly community outings. Services offered include ongoing assessment of each senior's well-being, case management, advocacy and legal referrals, health monitoring by nursing staff, nutritionally balanced meals, transportation, and caregiver support through educational sessions, support groups and ongoing distribution of the latest research on Alzheimer's disease. For more information or to schedule an intake appointment, call SCADC Manager Dianne Updike at 973-579-6699.
