Newton - Project Self-Sufficiency of Sussex County and Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. announce the organization will offer a legal seminar to discuss Elder Law issues from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, July 13. Janice Dailey Pasculli, a Newton attorney who specializes in legal issues surrounding the aging process, will facilitate the seminar which will be held at the Project Self-Sufficiency Career Center located at 61 Spring Street, 1st floor, in Newton. The forum, which is free and open to the public, will cover general estate planning issues, as well as those relating to the care of aging parents. Registration is required by calling (973) 383-5129. Project Self-Sufficiency is a non-profit organization specializing in services for single parents, teen parents and displaced homemakers. The services include legal assistance, childcare, career guidance, computer training and life skills enhancement. Pasculli, is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and a partner with the law office of Hollander, Strelzik, Pasculli, Hinkes, Vandenberg & Hontz in Newton. “I limit my practice to the legal issues that face elderly people,” said Pasculli. “Elder law is just another aspect of the legal problems that can face the clients of Project Self-Sufficiency. I am just one of a team of lawyers who try to provide some assistance.” The Elder Law forum will incorporate a discussion of general estate planning issues, including the development of wills, general durable power of attorney forms, advance directives for health care, and planning for future disability. The conversation will focus on problems many adults have in caring for aging parents, such as Medicare and Medicaid, long-term health care, and provisions for nursing home care. Project Self-Sufficiency provides its clients with a host of legal services, many of which are also open to the public. These programs include one-on-one consultations with area attorneys, a court accompaniment service, pro se divorce workshops, legal clinics for assistance with the preparation of family law motions, and the monthly legal forums. “We are fortunate to have a panel of distinguished attorneys from the area who donate their time and expertise to our seminar series,” said Beverly Gordon, President of Project Self-Sufficiency’s Board of Directors. “The topics we discuss at these seminars are relevant to many of the residents in our community, and the presentations give people the opportunity to learn more about the issues and to ask questions of an expert about their particular case.” For information about legal services offered at Project Self-Sufficiency, or to register for the seminar, call (973) 383-5129.
