Pass It Along Serve A Thon brings out hundreds of volunteers to benefit the county

Sussex county - On Saturday, May 20, hundreds of volunteers came out to participate in the annual Serve-A-Thon hosted by Pass It Along. First Hope Bank was the title sponsor.  Projects were completed throughout Sussex and neighboring counties ranging from landscaping to painting and cooking meals. Families, groups and individuals joined forces to lend a helping hand and make an impact on their communities. At the Homestead Nursing Home, the outdoor pavilion was transformed into a serene retreat for the residents with the addition of trees, flowering shrubs, perennials, and annuals. Most of the day was spent digging, edging, planting and mulching. At the Sussex County Youth Shelter, a large stone planter was constructed in the front yard. Meredith Reilly, social worker at the shelter, said, “We were so impressed with everyone who came out to help.” Other activities included cleaning yards for for homebound seniors, hosting a fun fair at Brookside Terrace and painting was at Birth Haven, Samaritan Inn and Sunrise House  At Post House in Morris County, volunteers rallied to do some major outdoor projects.  Meals were cooked in Sparta and delivered to families in need. High school volunteers spent their afternoon mentoring children from Newark. Pass It Along has been leading volunteers to service projects throughout Sussex, Warren and Morris Counties for the past 5 years.
