Personal watercraft, boat safety courses at the community college
Newton - The rules of the water are changing and Sussex County Community College is offering classes this summer on personal watercraft and boating safety to keep county residents up to date. The courses will be taught by Coast Boating School, a nationally recognized boating safety school. The course is for operators of powerboats 16 years of age and older. Boat handling, rules of the water, safety regulations, necessary equipment, and legal responsibilities will be covered. The course is state-approved for issuing the N.J. Boating Safety Certificate upon successful completion of course and homework assignments. Boaters 16 and older may be certified for power boats and personal watercraft. (Ages 13 to 15 can only be certified for operation of small boats with under 10 horsepower or electric engines.) Cost of the course is $69. The two-day course will meet from 6:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on the college campus, located at One College Hill Rd. in Newton.
