Rebekah Garris, Diana Karakos named senior artists'

NEWTON - Rebekah Garris was named senior artist’ for November/December at Kittatinny Regional High School. She is the daughter of Diana and Joe Garris of Stillwater. She has been interested in art since kindergarten classes at Stillwater Elementary School. A talented artist, Garris has frequently been commissioned to do portraits. Between her favorite activities of hunting, reading, and listening to good music, she also finds time to write about things that interest her. She fulfilled a personal dream last year when she experienced the publication of one of her written works. Her book, Unending Hope, is set in the mountains of Colorado a few years after the Civil War and centers around two sisters and their adventures with surviving on their own in the wilderness. Her exhibit at Kittatinny features 10 works in a variety of art media, including two acrylic, five pencil drawings, two pen-and-ink, and one oil pastel. She plans to attend a local college and hopes for a career as a photographer. Diana Karakos was senior artist for October. She is the daughter of Dennis and Mary Karakos of Fredon. Her interest in art started while attending elementary school in Fredon. Throughout high school, Karakos’ art work has been displayed in the annual school calendar and Tapestry Magazine, a student-published literature and art magazine. Karakos is a participant in Teen Arts, and her wok has also been chosen for reproduction at the Sussex County Community College Gallery. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society and Peer Leadership, Karakos enjoys participating in sports, specifically soccer, skiing and horseback riding. Her exhibit at Kittatinny featured 10 works in a variety of media, which included two acrylic, three pencil drawings, one watercolor, two oil pastels and two charcoals. Karakos plans to attend St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. She hopes to pursue a career as a forensic psychologist.
