Newton - The end of October brings more than just fall colors and trick-or-treating. Oct. 23-31 is National Red Ribbon Week. It’s a time when people pledge to stay drug free and join the fight against drug use. Red Ribbon Day will be celebrated from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Sussex County Community College gymnasium in Newton. Activities for the day will include a “Showcase of Talent” in which children from all over Sussex County will show off their “anti-drug,” their special talent that helps to keep them drug-free. Other activities will include crafts and games, face painting, balloon sculptures, National Guard Humvees, the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation’s “Fire Safety House,” a merry-go-round, pony rides, and more. Admission is free. Red Ribbon Day is hosted by the Sussex County Coalition for Healthy and Safe Families, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling.
