Registration now open for second annual Gingerbread House Contest

    Jefferson - The Jefferson Arts Committee has scheduled its second annual Gingerbread House Contest as part of its upcoming Christmas in the Village event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2. The Contest will be held in the Jefferson Township Public Library located at 1030 Weldon Road in the Municipal Complex. Age divisions for participation are 4 to 5, 6 to 7, 8 to 11, 12 to 14 years of age, and 15 through adult. The rules are simple - create your own homemade gingerbread house or construct one from a purchased kit plus choose a style for your house - historic, an actual Jefferson Township residence, or just a house with landscaping. The size must not excel 12” wide x 12” high x 12” long, and all materials (except for a cardboard/wood/plastic base) must be edible. Judging will be based on the use of different edible materials, creativity, and originality; and prize ribbons will be awarded in all divisions. To enter, pre-registration is required accompanied by a $3 entry fee. Entry forms will be distributed to all township schools, but you can register now by picking up a registration form at the Jefferson Township Public Library, Municipal Building Lobby, or Camp Jefferson’s Recreation Department brochure racks. Just indicate the type of entry and the age of the person entering on the form along with the other required information and mail it to Debi Merz, 4 Ross Court, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438 no later than Nov. 25. All gingerbread houses must be dropped off at the Public Library between 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday evening, Dec. 1. Prize ribbons will be awarded, and all entries and winners may be viewed by the public between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Library.
