NEWTON —Registration is now available for Project Self-Sufficiency’s fourth annual Back to School Fair, to be held on August 10. The fair offers a variety of community resource information, fun activities, school supply giveaways, free children’s haircuts and more. The fair is open to all Sussex County families, who must pre-register to attend by contacting Project Self-Sufficiency at (973)383-5129. “This event has evolved as a way to help both parents and children begin the new school year with less stress and more confidence,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director. She said that the Back to School Fair is designed to give families the information and support to make the entire school year a positive and exciting time. The Back to School Fair will also host an array of fun activities for the kids. There will be face painting, bubble blowing, cotton candy, popcorn and an expansive playground to enjoy. When the parents can get their children to take a break from all the fun, a free pizza dinner and snacks will be provided to all. Several different community agencies will be on hand with information for parents ranging from health, childcare, parenting, education and mental health. Agencies who have previously participated in the fair: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Center for Prevention and Counseling, DASI, Ginnie’s House, Newton Mental Health, Norwescap, Project Self-Sufficiency, Sussex County Community College, Social Services, Newton Hospital Prenatal Clinic, Samaritan Inn, Sunrise House, DYFS, Legal Services, Sussex County Office of Special Education, and Newton Public Schools. “This event has always brought out the best in the Sussex County community,” said Dalliss Fuhrmann, PSS Counselor. “Whether it’s in the form of the local agencies who provide resource information, salons and stylists who donate their time to supply free children’s haircuts, or generous community groups like the Sparta Women’s Club, whose members come together to donate backpacks, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies for the occasion.” Only pre-registered families will be admitted to the Back to School fair, so please contact Project Self-Sufficiency at (973) 383-5129 to register today.
