Rev. Soaries to speak at interfaith breakfast

    Newton - Reverend Deforest B. Soaries, Jr., will be guest of honor and speaker at a "Faith in Action" breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 25, hosted by the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Rev. Soaries is senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. He is a pioneer of faith-based community development and has received numerous awards for his leadership and community service. Internationally renowned as a speaker, author and advocate for youth, Rev. Soaries was invited by Coretta Scott King to be the featured speaker at the 2000 official Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday celebration in Atlanta. From 1999 to 2002, Rev. Soaries served as New Jersey's 30th secretary of state. Rev. Soaries will speak about the growing importance of faith-based work in the community. Joining him as a speaker will be Karen Olson, founder of the Interfaith Hospitality Network and president of Family Promise. The breakfast will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Main St., Newton. For reservations call 973-579-1180.
