Reverend Brown School wins 2006 Academic Bowl

Sparta - The annual Academic Bowl competition, held recently in McKenna Hall at Reverend George A. Brown Memorial School, again drew talented students from Sussex and Passaic counties. In the seven preliminary rounds of the Jeopardy-like event, middle school teams from Hardyston, Immaculate Conception, Lafayette, Queen of Peace, Reverend Brown, Saint Joseph, Sparta and a practice squad, fielded questions on a variety of subjects in head-to-head competition. During each round, students buzzed in and answered difficult questions about history, math, English, geography, and science. After seven rounds and 280 questions, Sparta Middle School and Reverend Brown qualified to face each other in the final rounda rematch of last year’s close championship. Having earlier tied in their head-to-head preliminary round, the two schools faced off in a highly competitive match. Sparta jumped to an early lead, only to have Reverend Brown fight back to a tie and then hold a slim lead. Sparta came back to tie the score and then took a slight lead. The lead continued to change hands until the Reverend Brown team took the lead for good, ending Sparta’s four-year reign as Academic Bowl champion. Following the event, Judith Lynch, Sparta Middle School faculty advisor, presented the Academic Bowl trophy to Patricia Quinn and the Reverend Brown team.
