NEWTON — With classes beginning at Sussex County Community College the school’s Student Government Association (SGA) is in full swing. The college’s SGA serves as a communication link between the student body and college administration, and also oversees all student clubs and organizations. The officers for this academic year are President Lauren Alger, Vice President Chelsea Sullivan, Treasurer Jeff Blecker and Secretary Christina Medina. The SGA’s first event of the academic year was new student orientation where returning students played a major role in welcoming incoming freshmen to campus. The SGA’s goal for the 2011-12 academic year is to get more students involved in campus activities. “The members of SGA are working closely together to instill a sense of community among the student and faculty on campus,” said SGA Secretary Cristina Medina. On September 29, the SGA hosted a Welcome Picnic and Meet the Clubs Day on the campus pavilion. According to the association, student participation in clubs is already on the rise. The SGA will host its annual haunted hayride and Halloween party for the community on Friday, October 28 from 6-10 p.m.
