Scenic hike Oct. 15 to benefit Byram, Lakeland

    Byram - Hudson Farm,in conjunction with Byram Township, will host a 3.5 mile guided hike on Saturday, Oct. 15, to raise money for Byram schools, the Byram fire department, and the Lakeland emergency squad. The hike will take visitors through picturesque scenery highlighting the fall foliage. Hudson Farm will donate $1 per year of the age of each participant. A lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs will be served at Hudson Farm at the end of the hike. “This is a unique opportunity to foster a school and community partnership with a prominent not-for-profit organization,” said Joe Pezak, Byram Township superintendent of schools. “While participants will discover and enjoy the natural resources abundant at the Hudson Farm, the proceeds raised will be utilized to serve the educational needs of our Byram students.” Check-in is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hudson Farm, located 0.3 miles north of Lackawanna Drive on Stanhope-Sparta Rd., at the border of Byram and Hopatcong. Parking will be available at the farm; participants will be bused to the start of the hike on Roseville Rd. Hikers are asked not to attempt to park on Roseville Rd. The trail ends at Hudson Farm. This will be a challenging hike on a mountainous trail, organizers suggest that parents use discretion with younger children. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water bottles. The event is rain or shine, so hikers are also advised to bring raincoats or ponchos. The hike is free and is open both to Byram residents and non-residents.
