Schools to receive 1,200 elementary students on first day of school

    Plans are complete for new students entering township Byram - Superintendent Joseph Pezak, said plans are complete to receive approximately 1,200 elementary school children on the opening day of school, Thursday, Sept. 7. Parents/guardians of children of elementary school age and new to the community are asked to register their children for the coming school year. Registration for the coming school year is now going on in the township schools from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration will not be accepted on opening day. Registration for K-4 only in the main office of the Byram Lakes Elementary School Registration for 5-8 only in the main office of the Byram Intermediate School, A new student orientation program will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Byram Intermediate School and at 11:30 a.m. at the Byram Lakes School. A kindergarten open house will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24 in the individual kindergarten classrooms. Both schools are located on Mansfield Drive in Byram Township. Morning Kindergarten: last name A-L 9 - 10 a.m., last name A-L 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Afternoon Kindergarten: last name M-Z 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., last name M-Z 2 - 3 p.m. Children attending kindergarten for the first time are asked to be prepared to ride school buses on the first day. Their teachers will be on hand to receive them at school. Parents/guardians are discouraged from bringing their kindergarten children to school themselves. Parents/guardians of kindergarten children are asked to pin a nametag on their child with the child’s name and teacher’s name carried on the tag. Parents/guardians are reminded that bus routes, times and locations of bus stops will be mailed to your home during the summer. Children should be at their respective bus stops five minutes prior to their stated bus time and, on boarding, will be checked by the bus driver against loading list. Unless it is absolutely necessary, parents/guardians should refrain from driving their children to or from school since a congested traffic pattern in the vicinity of the school bus loading area creates a potential safety hazard. Parents/guardians who find it necessary to pick up their child in the afternoon should not plan to do so until the end of class time. The school cafeteria will be open on the first day of school in both schools for children in grades 1-8 desiring to use the facilities. The cost of a student lunch will be $1.75, a la carte milk $.40 and kindergarten milk $.20. Children in kindergarten may avail themselves of the milk program. Parents/guardians are asked to provide children with a snack. The day for Byram Lakes students begins at 8:40 a.m. when they report to homeroom. Instruction begins at 8:50 a.m. with classes ending at 3:05 p.m. and dismissal at 3:15 p.m. The day for Byram Intermediate students begins at 8:00 a.m. when they report to homeroom. Instruction begins at 8:07 a.m. with classes ending and dismissal at 2:36 p.m.
