Oak Ridge — A film and discussion program will take place at the Jefferson Township Public Library, 1031 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge, N.J. at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18. It will feature an introduction to Islamic culture by Dr. Stephen Levy, a screening of the Iranian film “DayBreak,” and a question and answer session. “Day Break” (83 minutes, in Farsi with English subtitles) revolves around the imminent execution of Mansour, found guilty of murder in Iran, where capital punishment is carried out according to Islamic law. It is filmed inside Tehran’s century-old prison and based on a compilation of true stories. Stephen Levy (PhD, Philosophy, Fordham) is a frequent lecturer on philosophic, religious and literary topics, including Islam. He has taught at Pace University and Johns Hopkins University, and is currently a professor at St. Peter’s College and the County College of Morris. This program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
