Siblings cooperate to open
Gallery By The Green in Newton Newton Sibling competition yields to sibling cooperation with the recent opening of Gallery By The Green in Newton. Gallery owner Joan Leckie Salvas, after spending her life surrounded by the work of her brother, Geoffrey Leckie, decided it was time to give him a permanent outlet for the exhibition of his work. Raised in Morris county, Leckie studied architecture at the University of Virginia. He eventually abandoned architecture to concentrate on painting, studying at the Arts Students League in New York City. Painting has taken him around the nation as well as around the world. His paintings are characterized by an overwhelming interest in the effects of light and atmosphere, where a personal impressionistic response to the variety of his landscapes relies, not so much on architectural accuracy as on his poetic and imaginative interpretation of his subject. Leckie regularly exhibits throughout the United States and Europe. His works can be found in public and private collections worldwide. Gallery By The Green, located in the heart of Newton’s historic and commercial district, is open Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m. to -2 p.m., 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment.
