S.L.A.P. cleans up in Sussex

    Sussex County Sheriff Robert E. Unrig reported that the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program (S.L.A.P.) performed 1,342 hours of community service projects during October, with 225 program participants assisting with several projects involving clean up, painting and maintenance, and non-profit event set-up. Of note was assistance provided to the Newton Fire Department for set-up and cleanup for the Sussex County Fireman’s Parade as well as involvement in the Lake Musconetcong Cleanup Day. In addition, the S.L.A.P. participants cleaned up 22 miles of Sussex County roadways, collecting 76 bags of garbage weighing 1,216 pounds. Untig said that he “is very proud of the services provided by the S.L.A.P. personnel and the program participants.“ He stated that he is most pleased with the community service that is offered by the program to non-profit organizations in Sussex County.
