On Sunday, May 20, at 1:47 a.m., Cpl. Ray Mueller was on patrol on East Mountain Road when he noticed a white Nissan Pathfinder fail to signal a turn. He followed it onto Woodport Road, where it was driven erratically. Mueller stopped it and, arrested the driver Rory Fioretti, 21, of West Orange for driving while intoxicated. Fioretti was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing and was charged with several motor vehicle offenses. He was released pending a required court appearance. On Sunday, May 27 at 2:36 a.m., Cpl. John Lamon was assigned to the DWI check point on Route 15. He flagged a truck and smelled alcohol inside. The driver Gregory Nicholas Jr., 18, of Newfoundland, Pa denied having consumed any. The passenger Dale Pascavage, 37, of Lakeville Pa., was found to have narcotic paraphernalia. Further investigation revealed two “crack stems” in the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested. As Pascavage was searched, Patrolman Joseph Pensado, found two plastic bags of cocaine. Both men were brought to Sparta police headquarters. Pascavage was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine) and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $12,500. He was lodged in the Sussex County Jail, Nicholas was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics in a motor vehicle. He was released.
