    Newton 5, Hopatcong 3 Steve Zander and Jared Zoppa collected two hits apiece to spur Newton to a 5-3 victory over Hopatcong in the first round of the SCIL Festival. Zander singled twice in three at bats, driving in three runs, while Zappa also went 2 for 3, scoring twice. Steve Scudilla not only picked up his first “W” of the season in five decisions while scattering six hits, he also knocked in a pair of runs as the Braves upped their record to 5-12. Jefferson 11, Belvidere 1 Dom Macaluso went the distance for Jefferson, scattering five hits over five innings in a game halted in the bottom of the fifth by the 10-run mercy rule. He improved his record to 2-3 with the 11-1 non-league win over Belvidere. At the plate, Macaluso went 2 for 3 with a round-tripper, while knocking in two runs and crossing the plate twice. His teammate,Carson Cooper, blasted a grand slam homer in the bottom of the fifth to finish with six RBIs. New Egypt 8, Wallkill 4 Wallkill 11, New Egypt 10 Wallkill Valley split a non-league twin bill with New Egypt in Ocean County on Saturday with the Rangers winning 11-10 in the nightcap after opening with a 8-4 loss. J.J. Conrad and Matt Joyce had three hits apiece in the second game with Conrad scoring three runs and Joyce plating three teammates. Lenape 11, Vernon 1 Joe Farruggia and Pat Groome both homered to propel Lenape Valley to a 11-1 victory over Vernon on Friday in a game halted in the bottom of the fifth. Dan Pregno pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, as he upped his record to 5-1. High Point 9, Hopatcong 4 Greg Case homered twice and picked up his second “W” in three decisions as High Point defeated Hopatcong 9-4. Case was selected the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Jim Abbott unloaded a three-run homer in the second while Neil Kornutick blasted a round-tripper, and Brett Marura doubled in two runs as High Point leveled its record at 7-7.
